St. Patrick’s Day Sunday Funday Edition

Last year, since St. Patrick’s Day was on a Saturday, I figured I would set you all up with a St. Patrick’s Day Survival Kit. It only made sense to do that since the celebrated day of binge drinking fell on a weekend day. This year, it’s going to be another full day of tricoloured (Irish Flag) shenanigans…but just a tiny bit better because it’s on a Sunday Funday!

Basically, it’ll be exactly like last year BUT you will start the day of with an ol’ Irish breakfast that will turn into brunch (I’m a firm believer that brunch is better on a Sunday as opposed to a Saturday), and consist of a hot bevvy filled with Baileys. And for your convenience, here are some Baileys Hot Beverage RecipesClearly, I’m not wasting any time here…

And what’s an Irish breakfast without soda bread? An executive of the Martha Stewart Show submitted, on Martha’s site, his mom’s recipe from the Old Country. Maud Herlihy’s Irish Soda Bread looks to be like a pretty solid soda bread if you ask me!

Once your bellies are full with morning Irish libations, I’m assuming that you’ll either be heading out to a St. Patrick’s Day Sunday Monday shindig or you’ll be hosting a green splattered extravaganza of your own!

If you want a buffer for after brunchskies and before you get your St. Patrick’s Day party on, why not head out to your local parade? For us Torontonians, here’s all the info: Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

If you’re throwing the ultimate shamrock fest at home, I stumbled upon an amazing party kit thrown together by non other than THE Irish whiskey, Jameson! Included in the Jameson Whiskey St. Patrick’s Day Party Kit are:

  • Invitations
  • Drink menu with recipes
  • Decorations
  • Truth or Folklore game
  • Irish slang cards
  • Origami instructions and paper to make: hats & streamers

If I showed up to a St. Patty’s day house party that was covered in these decos and we played some folklore games (fun AND educational? Let’s do this.), then I would be the happiest leprechaun of them all!

If you’re like me and venturing out into the world of St. Patrick’s Day events, bars and pubs, here are some of my top Toronto recos:

Steamwhistle St. Patty’s Day Bash - Their parties are always a blast.

Budweiser Presents: St. Party’s Day - I’m heading to this one on Sunday!

St. Patrick’s Day LOFT Party at The Burroughes - There will be games. There. Will. Be. Games.

Irish Embassy Pub & Grill - The name speaks for itself, really…

Irish Pubs - any of these Prime pubs will be a heel click of a time.

For all of the above, or for anywhere you’re headed to, I highly recommend you getting to your destination of choice 15 minutes earlier than you anticipated. THERE WILL BE LINE UPS. EVERYWHERE. So don’t be surprised…refer to my survival kit, for it may come in handy while waiting in line.

After all that green beer, Guinness, green beer, whiskey, Guinness, Irish Car Bombs and more green beer, it’s pretty certain that you’ll be hurting something bad the next a.m. Why not do what other Canadians are doing? Prepare for your hangover! (stumbled across this on Twitter. I was thoroughly impressed with our diligent Canadian ways).

No matter how you spend your St. Patrick’s Day, please, be safe and whatever you consume, do it responsibly! If you want to check in on how my day is going, follow me on Twitter and Instagram! I apologize in advance for blurry photos…and ugly green ensembles…and temporary tattoos…and stickers on faces…and ugly green ensembles.

Now, we all celebrate the day of St. Patrick, but why the heck do we do it? And who exactly IS this Patrick Saint?

Hard Candy

Remember back in the day (Imma say, late 90′s early 2000′s) those wickedly cool and exclusive square bottles of nail polish with those fun collectible rings with shapes on the tops? I sure do! Well, they’re back, bigger and better. It’s not just a nail polish game anymore, but an entire line of cosmetics AND apparel!

On January 30th, 2013, I attended the Hard Candy Spring 2013 Collection feat. Hard Candy Cosmetics and Hard Candy Apparel launch. The uber hip and sassy EGPR event took place at one of my fave spaces, Edition Richmond.

From the ever-so appropriate candy table…

Candy Table

… to the nothing but Spice Girls, Britney, Christina, Destiny’s Child and, yes, NKOTB, being spun by the fabulous D.J Midnight Society…

DJ

…I knew that just from walking into the venue, there was no doubt that I was going to experience the ultimate girls night out.

The deliciously fabulous Hard Candy goodies (pun intended), were displayed all around the venue along with a corner set up for anyone to have their face did by the lovely make-up professionals.

Pop Up ShopThere was also a cute pop-up shop for the new Hard Candy Apparel, filled with sweat pants, sweat shirts and mesh shirts.

Heart & Star shirts

My lovely friend, Danielle H., w/ yours truly showing off the threads! Post Script, those hearts and stars are SEQUINED!

As a long-time fan of the brand, I have to say that the Hard Candy nail polish is still my favourite item of the cosmetic line. I change my nail colour, myself, once a week, and so I know a good nail polish when I see one. The Hard Candy polish handle is easy to hold, the brush is long for full coverage, the polish itself is smooth and, oh yes, dries quickly. Did I mention that it comes in a rainbow and beyond of amazing colours?! Take a look for yourselves…

Nail Polish

Now, I of course had to leave the nail polish display at some point, so that I could check out the other products of the cosmetics line. Eye shadow palettes, mascaras, foundations, eye liners, eye shadow sticks, eye shadow pods, lipsticks, lip glosses, blushes, and the list goes on, really, as you can see here…

Make Up Table 2

I tested out a few of the products and I fell in love with the Stroke of Gorgeous liner. I’m not a liquid liner kinda a gal, mostly because I can never get both eyes even, however, this specific pen, although is not technically a liquid liner, it acts like one. There is minimal smudging and the pen is easy to control.

Here I am getting my face done by the loverly, Jolene Hoadley, and she’s using the Stroke of Gorgeous liner!

And of course I couldn’t leave the event sans fun, custom jimmy sprinkled Timbits…and Danielle capturing the moment.

But, where can one find all the amazing Hard Candy products? Why, at Walmart of course! And to be honest, any excuse I can get to make a trip to Walmart, I will take. All products can be found in the cosmetic section in Walmart. The majority of Hard Candy products are available for under $10.00, and that I cannot argue with, and I’m sure you won’t either. #HardCandyS13

A Valiant Valentine’s Day (Guide for Men)

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I figured it would be a smooth move for me to help you gents out with your smooth moves…or give you some, to make this year’s Valentine’s Day a successful one.

Whether it’s a speed dating date,  first date (woah, you’re ballsy. V Day as your first date?!) or 100th date, it’s always nice to have little etiquette reminders. Here are five of, what I think are, the important ones:

1 – ALWAYS OPEN and HOLD the DOOR for the LADY and let her in FIRST (this is often forgotten).

2 – If having DINNER (at home or at a restaurant, PULL OUT the chair, let her SIT DOWN and then help push (GENTLY) in the chair.

3 – BRING HER FLOWERS. Every lady loves getting flowers. If she says she doesn’t, she’s lying and testing you. If you agreed to not do gifts, give her flowers anyways (trust me). It can be a single flower (doesn’t have to be a rose) or 100.

4 – COMPLIMENT HER. A complement goes a long way. If the dinner sucks and you forget all of the above, but remembered to compliment her, then you are redeemed, my child.

5 – Quickly watch all RYAN GOSLING movies.

6 – KISS HER LIKE THIS:

All of the above can be applied to in EVERY DAY LIFE, but you know, it’s Valentine’s Day and all…

Best of luck, God Speed and remember, Ryan. Gosling.

Oh, and you’re very welcome *wink* #ValiantValentine

The 4th Annual ReGift Event

Who says that gift exchanges stop during the holidays? ReGiftTO sure doesn’t!

ReGiftTO has been a “Tweetup” (Twitter meet-up) gift exchange headed up by my friend, Joallore, for the past four years. I attended this year’s 4th Annual ReGift event and had an absolute blast! Nothing like getting gifts in the middle of January for no reason.

This event gives people the chance to get rid of gifts they’ve received and don’t want. One person’s garbage (not in the literal sense…but imagine if it was?) is another person’s treasure, right? I think so. But, not to worry,  if you don’t have anything to re-gift, then you go can out and buy one, as long as it’s at least $10.00, which is what I did! If you attended this year’s event, I was the one who brought the 6 bottle wine rack…and I’m pretty sure the woman who got it didn’t want it…who doesn’t want a wine rack?! That ish cray.

The table of gifts in all their glory (the wine rack is on the end in the polka dots)…

ReGiftTO gift table

Here’s what I got…not too shabby…except for the Charlie’s Angels DVD in French. Good thing I’m bilingual?

ReGiftTO gifts

This year the event was held at the Liberty Village resto-lounge, bar Locus 144, which is a great space for any kind of event. Everyone placed all their wrapped gifts on a table, grabbed a drink and then mingled and networked. There’s that magic word I love so much. Networking. ReGift isn’t all about the re-gifting, it’s also a wicked opportunity for folks to actually meet their Twitter followers and followees, and simply expand their professional networks…in a really fun setting.

Tweeps enjoying themselves…

The crowd at ReGiftTO

I ended up meeting (and finally meeting) some awesome people that have been in my Twitter network for a while now. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s always great putting faces to Twitter handles! However, I still believe that instead of having a name tag at these types of events, we need to have our Twitter handles floating above our heads…because let’s face it, that’s how we all know each other. Twitter handle holograms above our heads. If you’re a developer looking for a new project, you’re welcome.

Along with the gift opening and networking, there were a ton of giveaways from some amazing local sponsors such as: StarbucksEvoke SalonDanceologyBranding and BuzzingGelaskinsSt. Louis WingsReal Sports Bar & Grille11even and Coldstone Creamery. Yeah, tell me about it. I was lucky enough to win a gift certificate for Danceology and I can’t wait to get my ballroom dance party on!!!

I am thrilled that I braved the weather (you know, the -10C that really wasn’t THAT bad…I still have my -26C Ottawa blood) and made that effort to get out, meet some people and open some gifts! I encourage all of you to attend this event next year…or even keep an eye out for other Tweetups. If you’re not in the T-Dot and if there isn’t an event like this in your city, maybe you should start it up? #ReGiftTO
